Ride sharing - desi style

I was reminded of this while watching a hindi movie yesterday. The concept of ride-sharing in India is not only for cars but also 2 wheelers. And sometimes there are more than 2 people riding a 2 wheeler. We used to call it 'tribs'; don't know if it has any other name.

My friend T taught me to ride a 2 wheeler way back in engg first year. She had a Scooty. We had a lot of fun with her scooty. My friend S had a luna that would never work half the time. That is when it started, most times it would never start.

Once the same thing happened. We were all at S's house in RT Nagar. As usual, her luna did not start. I think we had a lab or something in the afternoon for which the 3 of us had to go back to college. There were 3 of us and 1 vehicle. Only one solution - 'tribs' !!! LOL. It was quite an experience.

So, we started journey. We were scared of being 'caught' by cops. The route to college was through many main roads and even a small stretch of a NH. So, we took a risk and went ahead. We stopped a couple of times because all of us would be laughing uncontrollably. One of the times, we stooped and made S walk a little as there was a cop standing a few feet away. We reached college safely. The trip was a lot of fun and we repeated it quite a few times after that ' just for kicks'.

Luna is atleast better than the mofa. I have seen bicyclists proudly overtake people riding Mofa's :)

And when we were kids - there used to be one kid between the handle bar and the driver (poor Appa!) and one kid sitting in the spare tire at the back!

Funny post :)

Prabhu,
I forgot abt the mofa. hehehe. We used to tease S so much abt her luna's speed.

Obla,
:-) I guess most of us would have tried this stunt.

Syam,
Thanks for dropping by !
Some methods of avoiding cops have been adopted by all I think :-D

Archana,
It was funnier to see her in action. Now you know why we had to take ' laughter breaks'.

Madsies,
LOL abt the licence comment ! I had a LL which I kept renewing for 4 years :-P

Ah, in Chennai it was not that difficult for girls to do tripples. Cops never caught girls for minor offences like these ;-)! I have done it a few times. I remember the person in the middle usually had a tough time figuring out where to put their legs...lol!

Btw, archana's comment reminded me of a drive conducted by cops in 97-98: they stopped all girls driving two-wheelers and found out only a quarter of them had licenses.

Archana,
yeah thats true...sometimes being a girl has advantages :-D
LOL abt the person in the middle...i guess dangling the legs is one of the options !

Vivek,
Yeah its a little scary now but back then it was fun.

Ashok,
Oh appidiya...well I guess cops r always on the lookout to catch guys...:-)

I have gone tripples too, though I always made sure I was not the one who was sandwiched. :) Good old Scooty Days. You have made me homesick now :(
