Car, car, car....

What does a car mean to you ? Does a car define your personality ? Why do cars mean more to men than women ?

It always amuses me when my male friends start talking about cars; they are so passionate about it; and my complete lack-of-knowledge sure does annoy some of them. For me, a car is mode to transport to get from one place to another. Thats it. I don't really care about the tyre size, the bhp, the cylinder capacity or the other details!!

This does not mean that I don't like driving. I simply love to drive. I like sleek and fast cars. I like coupes and convertibles. Like most women, I judge the car by its cost, looks etc. Some of the fun times I have had were driving the sleek mustang on I-75 and the monstrous Suburban on Pikes Peak. A good car can make a big difference in the journey ! After O bought his recent BMW 3-series, I got to know why people love BMWs. It was fun to go in his car to Austin. Its an amazing car. I also love R's Merc too.

Coming back to the point about cars and personality. Not everyone can afford to buy a car that matches their personality. So, I think it is hard to judge a person by the car. Its funny how most desis would have either Honda, Nissan or Toyota. I guess we are a practical bunch. :-)

My first car was an old Toyota Corolla. It was a good car but always had problems. So, thanks to it, I learnt a lot about the different car parts (something or the other would go wrong with it every month). I had a flat-tyre many times, so managed to learn how to change a flat too. Finally, I had to sell it last year because I suspected that it would just stop on the road. Then, came the boring part of looking for a new car. I decided to indulge and buy a coupe. Many people told me that coupes are too small. But since I don't have a family, I din't really care. The car was for my driving pleasure after all. So, I bought another 2nd hand car, this time a Nissan Coupe (200sx). Its a decent car. But I do wish it had more power. So, my next car would be a V-6 for sure.

So, what is my dream car? Well, if I get a jackpot and pots of money, I may go for a Lexus Coupe. Or maybe an Acura. Or maybe a BMW. If...wishes were horses indeed....!!

So, what do you drive ?

There was a time when I'd have dreamt of a cool coupe, or a z5, but right now, completely enjoy the heavyweight Honda Odyssey I drive. It has power, and it's roomy, and boy, can I beat all those itsy bitsy cars way behind me if there was a race!

My first car was however a Toyota Camry. Cars are nice, but now, they just are too low and cramped for me.

Nee enjoy pannu :-)

Dream car hhmm, I dont want a BMW because it has now become a Desi car, just like Hondas and Accords, no? But still I do love hitching a ride in a friend's BMW. :)

I dont want to dream about a car I would like to own because I may never be able to get it, and it would be a dream unfulfilled. :(

For now, a V6 Accord.
I never had a car while in school.

Rads,
I think the car preferences change with time. :-)Hv fun in ur odyssey !

SK,
Nothin wrong in dreaming !! As long as u wake up to reality ;-)
Yeah BMWs r becoming common; but its still an awesome anyday !

Life here in Texas is very hard without a car. There is no concept of public transport and all the stores are far away. :-(

Awesome post shilpa!! any thing to do with cars and I'm in.. :D
I have gone crazy more so last couple of years abt cars and looking at the cars, news related or listings or maintainence stuff any damn thing I can lay my eyes on.. I browse car list so many times a day even thgh I am not gonna buy one.. hmm.. for starters

I wud like to be different and not be a typical desi - which means Hondas and Toyotas thgh good - i wud overlook.. thgh i bought a 92 accord and god it gave me so many probs tht i wud be paranoid each day if it wud start or not.. so much tht after I got a job.. I just wanted to dispose it off and look for a cheaper car for the time being.. and s different frm the same old civics and corollas (cudnt afford higher class) so finally settled for 01 Ford focus.. which I love and is gr8 to drive.. handles excellent.. thgh I wish it had more power..

and guess wht now after an yr or so.. I am looking for a better one.. and u can only imagine how many hrs I waste looking at cars now.. by fall hopefuly I will get one.. may be used.. but a recent one for sure.. some in mind are Volvo, Saab, Mazda 6 and impressive Ford Fusion.. each day I change my mind.. :D.. no hondas and toyotas.. dont wanna be tht typical desi.. eventually hopefully i will be able to graduate to a Merc or a Lexus or an Audi.. I am not a fan of coupe.. its a pain everytime u got out with frnds... and here in upstate NY where it snows 100 inches or more.. convert doesnt make sense.. in the end the choice shd be reasonable keeping in mind the budget, and also gas price (sic).. the damn prices are increasing again and summer is coming.. i drive a lot and can c my money going down the fuel tank.. :(((((

sorry.. too long a comment but had to share it with someone.. :D

These fast cars may be good but be "car"eful :-), they can also cause grievous injuries.

Nascar ? Hmm...hey did u ever get to go to the Texas Speedway ?

Vivek,
Looks like its ur fav topic !
Hmm...there is no big necessity for cars in NY i suppose...Good Luck with car hunt.

Madsies,
Wow...VW is a gr8 car too...right ?

Kuttichuvaru,
Nissan family ? Me too :-)

Vijay,
60 secs for 0-60mph ? Hmm..we made our friend O test his bmw which goes 0-60 is 5secs :-)

Thennavan,
As long as there is a speed limit...there is no big difference between my car and a Merc on the freeway...ellarum same speed :-P

On the autobahn..thats a whole different story :-)

As you know, I drive a Civic :-). I like it pretty well! A car for me is mainly to get me from point A to point B - though sometimes I feel like driving forever :-). Hmm, my dream car would be a cool-looking convertible which is smooth and has lots of power. Now I guess u know what to get me for my next bday ;-)!

p.s. when I first saw the pics I thought u had *bought* one of those cars and was abt to congratulate you on winning the jackpot ;-P!

Vivek,
I mistook u for being in NYC.
U do need a car ! Good luck with the hunt.

Ashok,
Hey my corolla was a nice car. It was just too old and over-used. So became unreliable. :-)

Archu,
Don't worry I will buy you one of those miniature models for ur bday :-) heheheh

Adi-paavi,
Thanks for dropping by.
I like bikes too; but my skilled with geared vehicles are rather poor :-P
Abt changing flat, unless someone experiences it; they would not learn na. In fact I know guys who cannot change a flat either. hehehe.
